PTSD Is Not Weakness. It Is A Nervous System Trying To Protect You.

For many veterans, trauma does not end when service ends. PTSD can affect the body, mind, relationships, sleep, purpose, and the ability to feel safe. This page offers education, statistics, support, and trusted resources for veterans and their families.

What Is PTSD?

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a natural response that can develop after exposure to trauma, threat, violence, death, injury, combat, military sexual trauma, or overwhelming events. PTSD is not a character flaw. It is a whole-body response involving the brain, nervous system, memory, emotions, and sense of safety.

11%

Roughly 11-20 out of every 100 veterans who served in OEF/OIF have PTSD in a given year.

2x

Gender Disparity

Female veterans are more likely to experience PTSD than male veterans, often linked to varied trauma exposure.

Why PTSD Can Feel So Hard To Explain

PTSD isn't just about a single memory; it's about a nervous system that has been recalibrated for survival. It lives in the body, manifesting as physical sensations, emotional fog, and a constant search for threats that others don't see. Explaining this shift to those who haven't experienced it can feel like trying to describe a color they've never seen—it’s deeply personal, visceral, and often beyond words.

Physiological Shield

The body maintains a high level of arousal to protect from perceived danger.

The Emotional Gap

Trauma creates a distance between current safety and lived memory.

PTSD Is Treatable. Recovery Is Possible.

The brain and nervous system have an incredible capacity for healing. With the right tools, support, and community, you can reclaim your sense of safety and rediscover your purpose.

Somatic Regulation

Bypassing the logic of the mind to work directly with the nervous system through breath, movement, and sensory grounding to release stored survival stress.

Trauma-Informed Community

Healing rarely happens in isolation. Connection with others who share lived experience helps reduce shame and reminds us that we are not alone in the struggle.

Integrative Psychotherapy

Modern therapies like CPT, PE, and EMDR are evidence-based methods for re-processing trauma so it no longer triggers an immediate threat response in the present.

Spirit & Purpose

Moving beyond management of symptoms to the cultivation of post-traumatic growth. Finding meaning, reconnecting with nature, and identifying a new mission in life.
